At Otres Orchid, skip the rooms and choose one of the romantic bungalows set in a lush tropical garden complete with ponds and wooden bridges instead — they’re charming and come with a very reasonable price tag. You’ll find the room furnishings in the private bungalows rustic, but pleasant enough. They’re built from bamboo, which allows the breezes through helping to keep the rooms cool, but means your mosquito net is essential; do check whether they have any holes before taking the room. The bungalows come with a private bathroom, hot water and WiFi and though small they are undeniably charming. The woodwork inside is nicely crafted, and the attention to details like a small collection of books beside each bed, and at various points around the complex, add to its appeal. The only catch, as with any wooden/bamboo bungalow, is that along with the breezes you’ll also hear pretty much anything your neighbours are up to (and they you). Furniture is sparse, but the beds are comfy and clean. The front desk staff are as helpful, friendly and efficient as you could ask for -- nothing seemed to be a problem -- and they speak excellent English. There is no bar or restaurant attached, but so many options lie nearby that this is not a problem. If you’re looking for a social life though, you should maybe check in elsewhere.
